‘The Dating Game’ relaunched with Zooey Deschanel, Michael Bolton as hosts

What do Zooey Deschanel and Michael Bolton have in common? A new game show on ABC, apparently.

On Thursday, the network confirmed that it would be relaunching the classic 1960s show “The Dating Game” for a celebrity edition hosted by the two stars. The revival, titled “The Celebrity Dating Game,” will feature three contestants vying for a date with a famous bachelor whose identity is kept under wraps.

Like in the original “Dating Game,” which aired on ABC from 1965 to 1973, suitors will be toasted with questions before the celebrity decides which one they’d like to go on a date.

Unlike the original, which typically did not feature any celebrities, contestants will attempt to guess the identity of the mysterious celebrity based on clues, questions and parody performances by Bolton, who is also the show’s executive producer. .

The former “New Girl” star celebrated her new gig on Twitter Thusday.

“I am delighted to announce that I will be hosting #TheCelebrityDatingGame alongside @mbsings!” Deschanel wrote. “It’s the classic dating game you know and love, but with a modern twist! Michael and I will be matchmakers, setting up hopeful dates and surprising famous suitors.”

Bolton shared the Twitter that he’s also “SO EXCITED” about the show.

ABC has given the green light to eight hour-long episodes of the series. A premiere date has yet to be announced.

The original “Dating Game” was first hosted by Jim Lange, who died in 2014 at the age of 81. Michael Jackson, Steve Martin, and Arnold Schwarzenegger, among others, appeared as candidates. Even pre-“Charlie’s Angels” Farrah Fawcett appeared on the program, billed as “an accomplished artist and sculptor” with dreams of opening her own gallery.
